Sikhote Alin Location 46° 9' 36"N, 134° 39' 12"E Primorskiy kray, Russia Fell 12 February 1947 Iron, Coarsest Octahedrite (Ogg), II AB History: This meteorite fell on 12 of February 1947 in the Sikhote Alin mountains, Far East of Russia. Physical characteristics: Thousands of individuals and fragments were found during more then 60 yeas in area of about 4 x 12 km with more then 100 craters and holes. Total mass is more then 30 ton. Fusion crust is present on all individuals. Fragments are without crust. Classification: The meteorite is an Iron, Octahedrite, chemical group II AB. Tsarev Location 48° 42'N, 45° 42'E Volgograd District, Russia Fell: December 6, 1922, 0700 hrs (?), found 1968, recognized 1979 Ordinary Chondrite L5 Circumstances of find: Found in fields, the first few specimens were found by B.G. Nikiforov. The largest mass weighs 284 kg, the smallest 761 g. The greatest distance between the find sites was 6.0 km Later since 1990th till now many more pieces were found. Classification: The meteorite is an Ordinary Chondrite L5. | |||
